ABSTRACT

Circular RNA (CircRNA) is an endogenous closed circular noncoding RNA widely existing in organisms. It has a variety of biological functions and the characteristics of stable structure, high conservation, tissue and developmental stage specificity. Studies have confirmed that CircRNA plays an important role in regulating tumor gene expression, including participating in the occurrence, development and metastasis of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). It has the potential to become a new biomarker for the diagnosis and prognosis of OSCC, and can be used as a potential target for the treatment of OSCC. This paper reviews the biological characteristics of CircRNA and its latest research status in the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of OSCC.

ABSTRACT

A total of 1 789 patients with gastric cancer underwent radical gastrectomy in our hospital from September 2015 to August 2017, internal hernia (IH) developed in 7 cases with a incidence rate of 0.4%. The general condition, the symptoms, imaging findings, treatment methods and prognosis as well as the types of digestive tract reconstruction of patients were retrospective analyzed. There were 4 cases of Petersen′s hernia, 2 cases of jejuno-jejuno mesenteric hernia and 1 case of diaphragm hernia. All patients developed mechanical obstruction. Imaging examination showed mesenteric vessels overriding sign and double whirl sign. Six patients recovered smoothly, 1 patient gave up treatment due to extensive small bowel infarction. It is indicated that the formation of abnormal channels in the abdominal cavity after radical gastrectomy may lead to IH. The mesenteric vessels overriding sign and the double whirl sign are the unique imaging findings of IH after radical gastrectomy. Closing the abnormal channel can prevent the occurrence of IH after gastrectomy.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo investigate the antibacterial activity of glycyrrhizic acid (GA) against Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) under acidic environment in vitro.

METHODSWorking culture were prepared by inoculation of S. mutans into TPY broth followed by static incubation under anaerobic condition at 37 degrees C for 24 h. TPY broth was supplemented with three kinds density of GA (0.78, 1.57, 3.13 mg x mL(-1)), whose acidity was regulated to pH7.0, pH 5.5 and pH4.0. And the group of pH 7.0 was used as negative control. The growth of S. mutans was measured by A600 of bacteria suspension and counting colony forming unit (CFU). In addition, the survival rate of S. mutans was calculated.

RESULTSIn pH 5.5 groups, the survival rates of 0.78, 1.57 and 3.13 mg x mL(-1) GA groups were 60.96%, 60.27% and 45.58%, respectively, and in pH4.0 groups, the survival rates were 68.75%, 53.12% and 45.83%. In 0.78, 1.57 and 3.13 mg x mL(-1) GA groups, the survival rates of pH5.5 and pH4.0 were 52.25% and 39.05%, 74.39% and 43.11%, 86.38% and 55.30%, respectively.

CONCLUSIONGA could inhibit the growth of S. mutans under acidic environment, which the effect is improved as the acidity increased.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the relationship between energy metabolic changes tested by phosphorus-31 magnetic resonance(MR)spectroscopy(31P MRS)and the liver damage score(LDS)in rabbit models and investigate the diagnostic value of 31P MRS in acute hepatic injury. Methods A total of 30 rabbits were received different radiation dose(ranging from 5 Gy to 20 Gy)to establish acute hepatic injury models.31P MRS was than carried out 24 hrs after radiation. The rabbits were divided into mild(LDS≤3 U),moderate(LDS 3-6 U)and severe(LDS>6 U)hepatie injury groups.Ten healthy rabbits were served as controls.MR examination was performed on a 1.5 T imager using a 1H/31P surface coil by the 2D chemical shift imaging technique. The relative quantification of phosphomonoesters(PME),phosphodiesters (PDE), inorganic phosphate (Pi) and adenosine severe hepatic injury groups were 1.83±0.33,1.55±0.24,1.27±0.07 and 0.98±0.18,respectively,with significant differences(P<0.05).The ATP level was progressively decreased with the increase of severity Of hepatic injury. The relative quantification of PME and Pi were decreased in severe hepatic injury group compared to control group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference higher in moderate(1.94±0.50)and severe(1.96±0.72)hepatic injury groups compared to control group(1.43±0.31)and mild hepatic injury group(1.40+0.38)(P<0.05).No significant difference was found in ratio of relative quantification of other phosphorus metabolites. Conclusions 31P MRS is a useful method in evaluating acute hepatic injury. The relative quantification of hepatic ATP level, which can reflect the severity of acute hepatic injury,is correlated with LDS.
